Spring 2010 - Return to form of Sporting Anime.
« on: April 13, 2010, 05:45:40 PM »
April 2010 (Spring) has brought with it the usual onslaught of new anime. But very prominent so far however is the abundance of sporting themed anime this season, something (along with Mecha, but dont get me started on that) that has been lacking for the past few anime seasons.

There are no less than 4 sporting anime shows this season.
Giant Killing-Soccer
Major 6-Baseball
Ohkiku Furikabutte 2-Baseball
Ring ni Kakero: Shadow-Boxing

Currently I am watching Giant Killing and it looks really good in terms of story and technical aspects despite having lesser quality animation. I am also drastically trying to catch up with Major as I have fallen a few seasons behind, but its longevity is testament to its awesomeness! Even inspiring a live action show for nearly as many seasons.

I havent seen the other two as I never watched the earlier seasons of either, however Ohkiku Furikabutte's 1st season apparently impressed viewers while Ring ni Kakero has always been a dark horse (& controversial).

Happy sporting everyone. ;D

^ The only one I've seen is Suzuka, was an high-school athletics anime with a love story (can't recall if there was a love-triangle or not). Loved it to bitz. 8)

Can't say I'm much of a sports fan regardless. I've tried Suzuka and found it incredibly dull - got halfway and haven't been back.

I did enjoy Hikaru no Go if that counts. I've also been recommended the boxing anime Hajime no Ippo, but as its a long one, haven't got to it yet. I may also still have a copy of Battle Athletes somewhere, unless sense prevailed and I binned it  ;) (which is what I did with Prince of Tennis).

Hikaru no Go definately counts! I would recommend Hajime no Ippo even more than I would recommend K-ON (for those who dont know me, thats alot) as that is just a Class anime.

Battle Athletes is pretty futuristic, so can double-up as a sci-fi dose if you like that. And you will find that most sport anime are long ones!

Speaking of sport anime, last wednesday my 7 year old sister was like "JOSHUA COME LOOK! ITS A SOCCER ANIME!" it was on etv and played at 4:00 pm,its about these little robots that play soccer, the robots are given orders by kids.the robots seem to have a personality of their own though.if youre bored and have nothing to do its fine to watch
