Ghost in the Shell Live Action!

It was announced back in 2008 that Steven Spielbergs Dreamworks company had aquired the rights to make a live-action feature film of Masamune Shirow's manga/anime classic Ghost in the Shell.
Spielberg himself said “Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite stories, it’s a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks." It has since been mentioned that the film will be in 3D too.

Screen Rant
made an effort this year to have a word with new writer Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island).
When asked whether she would be using the anime or the manga as her main source, she ambiguously answered that she would focus on the original manga.

With the GitS project having made little success since its announcement 2 years ago, it appears to have taken a step forward, but dont expect any more developments any time soon.

So while we continue to wait, what are everybodies thoughts on remaking this truly classic anime? Are we excited, scared or overjoyed that its finally happening?

Definitely overjoyed. 8) After seeing what's possible thanks to recent 3D ventures, I have uber high hopes for this one. I rate with a huge budget and a solid story, it'll be majestic!

This sort of thing can go horribly wrong. It has the potential to be great if handled correctly, and sure, current state-of-the-art effects should have no trouble creating Shirow's world in all its glory. However, a bit of bad casting and a shoddy script can turn the whole thing into something cringeworthy (like what happened with Star Wars eps 1-3).

Still, I'd definately go see it, and reserve judgement till then...

Didn't we already get a live action You are not allowed to view links.Register or Login
Ghost in the Shell
...  ;D

I am a little worried (same goes for the Neon Genesis Evangelion live-action) that it'll be dumbed down or cut up to appeal to American teens and kiddies.

Not so much worried about Battle Angel given its been directed and co-written by James Cameron, but Akira... whole potful of worry! :-\

Battle Angel Alita
Live Action.

I really wish more of this was adapted besides the OVA. This has been in development hell (live action) since...2002 or so.

Got to admit I'm not worried about Akira. Never really liked it  :-[

Whoa... Forgot about a few of those. My only dread is that they turn out like the recent DBZ live-action. X_x

I never use this sort of language, but I'll make an exception: OMGWTF$@IUTGISRJG:SDAJ that was so awful!
