Windows 7. How are you finding it?
« on: April 09, 2010, 11:00:54 AM »
Since its been out for a few months now so I like to hear your options on it so far.

Pros

-Love their theme look and feel to it

-Supports many more devices I since I connect my PS2 Controller, Webcam, Cameras and storage devices without needing drivers so far.

-Excellent use for Multi Media. Love how the video cards renders while watching Full HD Movies and Animes. Also not to mention I managed to get my bulit in sound card on the MB to support 6.2 DTS fully working since XP I couldn't get it to work.

-Renders much better High End Graphics Card. - Had a problem with my GTX295 since I max out the settings for certain games and just refuse to goes its full performance. Even tried some tweaks and such but no luck. Win 7 goes alot smoother on my certain games now.

-Still Backwards compatibility to most to the older games. Works like a charm such as Tomb Raider II, Soul Reaver I, Metal Gear Solid I, Doom I and II Collection that tested out.

-Works much nicer and smoother for the newer CPUs.

-64 Bit Version works alot better compare to XP and Vista version.

Cons

-64bit version bug issues - Even though it works better but with programs that has 32bit just doesnt work good im afraid. Used Total Commander 32bit and get alot of copy issues in between. Alos Media player Classic 32bit works okay but it sometimes delays if want to go to the scene by clicking it and takes a few seconds to show the picture while the sound is still going. Doesnt do that for mkvs, avi so far but wmv, mov works horrible on it.

-More resource require - As expect you gotta need more RAM, CPU, GPU and such. Even for basic PC you gotta need to spend more.

-Again takes time to get used to the feel of Win 7. :)

-Win 95 softwares and games wont support. No big loss for me just really gotta miss some very old great games that I enjoy but yeah.

My option im really enjoying using it but just my option 64bit isnt worth it. If you gotta use it just for pure gaming or end use for specific program that you gotta use most of the time then go for it but if you gotta use mix of gaming and use alot of programs then stick to 32bit version.

It is still a bit early for me to comment on it. Since now they forcing ppl to move to win7 cause they won't supply updates for winxp. But i'm guessing this(yes currently using) will be the next xp after 1-3 service packs  :P

Edit:

Opps, yes i am finding it good to use.
Way better that Vista

Nice thread dude, as I'm still on the fence whether to switch over to Win7. ::)

Work is planning to move peeps over to the new OS (no idea when), so I'm waitng to try it out here before upgrading at home. My main concern is that my currently installed appz will stop working on Win7 (internet-traffic monitoring, FRAPS, loads of DotA gudgets, etc). :/

64bit is forward thinking though. In the near future most vebdors/manufacturers/apps are going to go over to 64bit, so it will be worth it in the long run.

Those type of errors are expected if you use 32bit apss on a 64bit OS.

This is my only problem. Had to give away a lot of my Sim games because of it.
