The Secret Life of Waves
Learning that there can be waves beneath surface-waves blew my mind.

Do We Really Need the Moon
This is the 1st doccie I've seen solely-presented by a chick. lol. Pretty cool doccie about the effects of the moon. The best part for me was learning what would happen if the moon was say 20 times closer to Earth that it is now, the tidal forces would be 400 times greater - meaning during high-tide cities would be completely covered in water, save for the skyscrapers. 8) Was also fascinating to learn that the moon is moving away from Earth about 4 centimeters each year.

Mark Zuckerberg: Inside Facebook
Having enjoyed the movie so much, I had to watch this one. :P lol. Was very surprised to find that Mark turned down, 1stly, a billion dollar offer (can't recall by whom) and then a 15 billion dollar offer by Microsoft. Made me lol when President Obama mentioned that he's the guy who got Mark to wear a suit, during an interview-show with Mark Zuckerberg and Obama. hehe.

The Universe - Catastrophes that changed the planets
Top 10 count down of catastrophes that lead to planets as they are today. The biggest shock for me was the stripping away of Mercury's mantle, leaving behind only the metal core of the planet - which is what we have today. This was caused by a meteor impact.

The Universe - Nemesis: The Sun's evil twin
Was fascinating to learn that there might be another star in our solar system, orbiting so far away that it takes 26 million years for one revolution around the sun. Seems a lot of stars in the galaxy are binary-stars, so this isn't some far off theory. What brought this theory about was the pattern of mass-extinctions by comets - where the Nemesis star would send asteroids hurtling towards the solar system everything 26 million years.

The Universe - Worst days on Planet Earth
Having seen a lot of doccies up to this point, there wasn't much that I already didn't know. We were hit by solar rays, had two ice ages, then ofc the meteor strike that killed off the dinosaurs. What did fascinate me was that back in the day, oxygen was seen as a toxic gas for life on Earth at the time, and with so many plants under water releasing oxygen through photosynthesis, it caused the mass-extinction of that era.

Megaquake : The hour that shook Japan - a minute by minute account, using footage from news, security and 'phone cameras etc, of the devastating quake and following tsunami that hit Japan last year.

Death Machines - man is nothing if not innovative when it comes to maiming and killing one other. This series recreates, and tests the feasibility of, a series of gruesome torture devices from Roman times, through the dark ages, and up to more modern devices like the guillotine, and the electric chair.

Gettysburg - probably one of the best war doccies I've ever seen. Follows the men and events in 1863 of probably the Civil War's most pivotal battles. All they need to do to make this into a full-on war movie is cut in some actors doing the boring chatty bits. Equal to "Saving Private Ryan" in the quality of the battle sequences. Epic!

Shaving Ryan's Privates - a humorous (and somewhat explicit) doccy about porno movies that parody Hollywood.

The Captains - William Shatner takes a somewhat sentimental, humorous and personal look at the differant actors who've played captains in the various Star Trek series. Some interesting commentaries about life, acting, and jazz music.

The Gates of Hell investigates the myths and legends behind hell, what some idiots... *coff... people believe today, and locations around the world that are supposed to be hell gates - such as the Erta Ali volcano on the horn of Africa.

Professor Brian Cox - A Night with the Stars
Not at all what I was expecting, but it was a must-watch for me, being a huge Brian Cox fan. xD

Quote
For one night only, Professor Brian Cox goes unplugged in a specially recorded programme from the lecture theatre of the Royal Institution of Great Britain. In his own inimitable style, Brian takes an audience of famous faces, scientists and members of the public on a journey through some of the most challenging concepts in physics.

With the help of Jonathan Ross, Simon Pegg, Sarah Millican and James May, Brian shows how diamonds - the hardest material in nature - are made up of nothingness; how things can be in an infinite number of places at once; why everything we see or touch in the universe exists; and how a diamond in the heart of London is in communication with the largest diamond in the cosmos.

CSA: The Confederate States of America - more a mockumentary, CSA introduces an America where the South won the civil war. It's quite a disturbing version of history, where the CS economy is still based on slavery. Presented as a TV doccie made in Britain, it also includes some quite shockingly racist adverts inbetween its segments. Which to my horror, turned out to be real adverts, some used in the US into the '80s.

Gasland examines the effects of "frakking" in the mining of gas in the US. There are some truly nasty side effects of the process that heavily pollute air and water. One guy had experienced such concentrated exposure, he had benzine in his blood! Shocking stuff.

Global Dimming - BBC doccy on the dimming effects of pollution in our atmosphere.

HR Giger Revealed - a horribly pretentious, artsy doccy about the works of HR Giger. I would've rather seen more of his work, rather than the flashy camera/editing used, but what is shown is as fantastic as it is unsettling.

Storming Juno - unusually, a D-Day doccy that isn't about the Americans. Rather, this is the part the Canadians played on the day of the battle. Very well presented with recreations of the battle using superb CG and tons of extras. (Obviously made by the same guys who did "Surviving D-Day").

Zeitgeist - Moving Forward - the third film in this series, and just as interesting and thought provoking. It presents some options that may help us as a species from breaking free from the mess we currently find ourselves mired in.

Lost Films - Vietnam is a superb recreation of the 10 year war in SE asia using new, rare, and private film footage. Some of the film is such good quality it looks as if it was shot yesterday.

Game of Thrones - You Win or You Die
A behind the scenes doccie of the series. Surprisingly, it focused a lot on season one, with like maybe 4-5 minutes on season 2. Was still cool hearing from some of the cast though. Has me really excited for what's to come - even though they only showed quick snippets of new scenes. xD
