Tekken vs Street Fighter

With E3 fever picking up, we're already starting to hear some amazing leaks about new announcements. Here's another one to chew on: A reliable source has indicated that Namco and Capcom are working together on a Tekken vs Street Fighter game. Even better: It could be announced as soon as E3.

This isn't the first time that Namco and Capcom have collaborated. In the past, they worked on Namco X Capcom, which was an action RPG game released on the PS2.

It's only natural that these two powerhouse developers of the best fighting game series are finally making the ultimate fighting game. Both companies in recent years have really gone out of their way to cater to fans of this genre. Namco threw some extra Star Wars characters into Soul Calibur, and Capcom of course has been doing big crossovers for sometime now. They recently announced a new Marvel vs Capcom game in the works as well.

Funny, it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were basking in the awesomeness of Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and speculating on what great VS concept Capcom should tackle next for a fighting game. Ironically enough, our wishlist was half done in jest because our heads would have explode

Be interesting to see which company adapts to which style, am hoping Capcom head the project, then Tekken can have some new life given to it cause it's become very stale and boring.

Namco X Capcom is one of my fav RPG's ever, one of the very few I will sit and play since I hate RPG's, so if this can do just as well as Namco X Capcom it may just be quite an awesome title

I seriously hope not, I'd hate to have the Tekken characters dumbed down to only six moves >:(
The large variety of move is what makes Tekken Great! 8)

I can say the same thing about Capcom games

Then please do so, it's always good to have an in depth discussion on fighters. We can talk frames, speed, buffers, wake-ups, BnB, cross-ups, Kara's, Cancels, links, chains, target combos, tick throws, zoning, cunters etc. Also can discuss whats changed from the various installments of SF/Tekken and other capcom fighters such as Rival Schools, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, TvC, MvC, SF vs X-men, Darkstalkers etc

Ready when you are, if you'd like to get into the discussion?

BTW I agree Tekken has a huge variety of moves, however most of them are useless, slow and pushing a direction with a button doesn't really instill much enthusiasm in me, then again always been more of a VF fan as it's far superior to Tekken in every way.

Though I am looking forward to the discussion, if there is one, and hoping your just not another casual player who doesn't really know what they talking about :) lol ;)

Question: VF = Virtua Fighter?
If so, then WIN!

Now, im pretty shocking at fighting games and thus am not a big fan of them. I'll just throw it in there that MK2 was the best fighting game ever!

I agree wit DarkPrince that the excess of moves in tekken makes it more complicated and less interesting than a SF or KoF. But then again I also think that SF is lacking. They should find a middle ground in between. (If you could do both Ultra's in match, that would be sufficient)

Still waiting for a good MK...

Yup VF is Virtua Fighter and blows anything away that Tekken thinks it does well. Even top Tekken players admit that VF is the more technical of the 2.

Have to disagree with MK2, Trilogy was for me the best MK title by far.

It's not that the amount of moves in Tekken make it complicated, it's a very easy fighter to get in to and many people can do well just by pushing buttons and not caring what they are actually pushing. It's just that Tekken is really interesting even with the abundance of characters. For me if I can play one Tekken character I can play them all relatively well, it's just that type. It's the only game my GF can pick up and actually land proper hits on me.

The thing with SF, is it doesn't rely on a huge amount of moves, it all comes down to timing, frames and combo's. Thats the stable of a SF game, and every game is always different, it's learning the character again. People go, oh look Ryu still has the Hadoken, but do you stop to think how long a certain punch Hadoken takes to perfrom, can I perform a fake Hadoken, can I combo in to it, will I be able to counter with it, which one should I use to Zone someone etc

SF adds and removes new things all the time which totally changes the gameplay. You don't need a huge amount of moves to be a in-depth fighter, and SF has proved that time and time again over the years, it is the daddy of all fighters whether people like it or not, every fighter owes something to SF and it shows. When you play and SF game you know why it is so highly regarded.

Oh btw, KOF XIII is going to destroy every next-gen fighter when it gets released :)

I'm beginning to think you spend to much time playing fighters, but having played my far share of fighters, i find SF lacking(3D sucked)...

Ha ha... That's a bold statement... And one i can prove you wrong on...

Lets hope so, i will reserve my judgment for after i have played it...

What do you mean by 'frames'?

Thats probably why I have never REALLY gotten into any fighting games (they just a multi-player game for when people come over). I have never ever thought about a strategy when playing them, I just pick'em up and try to bash everyone to death... with varrying degrees of success.

I spend most of my time playing fighters, they are the type of games I enjoy, just like an RPG fan would spend his time playing an RPG for 80+ hours.

Come now guys lets not talk like noobs to a game, you find SF lacking explain why? Maybe it's only lacking due to you not understanding the game, but we will never know unless it's discussed and not just say "the game is lacking"

Ha ha... That's a bold statement... And one i can prove you wrong on...

Sure whenever you want just let me know, I'll even let you pick the Tekken we play :) Many people have said similar things to me before and it's always been a dissapointment :)

Lets hope so, i will reserve my judgment for after i have played it...

Why wait, go watch the huge amount of Loketest vids, you can pretty much tell what the game is like and how it runs/plays. No need to wait for the game. Thats the great thing about fighters, vids speak volumes about the game.

Frames are the animation in which a move is performed, lets take SFIV for example, the game runs at 60 frames per second, the frame data for the characters shows how many frames of animation their moves take. So if we take Ryu's Hadouken for example, his LP Hadouken takes less frames and recovers better than his MP or HP Hadouken by a slight margin. This helps when you are fighting someone as you'll know what to use when, all moves have a certain frames/recovery. Knowing this will also help if you pull off a certain move but is blocked, the amount of frames that move takes will either decide if you can block the incoming move or if you will get punished for it, this will depend on how many frames faster you recover when compared to the opponents moce, Frame Advantage Block.

It's true fighters are mean't for multiplayer but if thats all you ever see with them you'll never really be any good at them. There is huge depth in fighters which is why I get annoyed when people with less knowledge just go "oh SF characters only have 3 special moves the game has no depth" thats just bullshit cause they have no clue what they talking about :p
