Little help with Xbox LIVE please?

Hi

I just managed to successfully sign up to xbox LIVE (UK) over the weekend. I can download stuff, but I havent been able to play any games.

Is the a particular way to do this? I tested with Gears of War 2 -
1. went to multiplayer
2. selected stabdard warzone game
3. selected find teammates

It the proceeded to search for teammates for an hour and returned nothing. Am I doing anything wrong? Mind you this was at 2am in the morning that I was doing this. And I have one of the 1 month free GOLD accounts.

Any help will be appreciated.
