Mortal Kombat 9
« on: June 08, 2010, 09:55:39 AM »
Bit of old news but maybe with E3 coming up the thread might live a bit.

Quote
Earlier this month MK Universe noticed that one of the MK Team's PSN accounts was noticed connected to the PSN Network while play testing a build of MK9.

Some have assumed it was Ed's PSN account because of the word "Noob" in it, but in fact it was one of the many public accounts created for the "Fight the Developers" night from a year ago. These accounts have been fairly dormant since then, so either this was a planned "leak" or an accident on the part of one of the game's developers.

GamePro informs us that Mortal Kombat 9 will be officially presented at E3 2010 in Los Angeles, departing on 14 this month.

After the recent disappointing chapters of the series, the developers had promised a return in grand style and had announced that Mortal Kombat 9 will be the title most bloody of the entire saga. Look forward to E3 to see something now about nine Mortal Kombat has always hovered a strong secrecy and has never been published even a single image.

Wow! Didn't know they're upto nine already. X_x I lost interest in the MK series when they started "speeding things up" - from MK3 onwards. ::)

Reveal Trailer has been released and the game exceeds my expectations:

It looks amazing, runs just like the older titles, can't wait for more gameplay footage of this. Am liking everything about the reveal trailer, characters look good, familiar moves, new moves, old stages, new stages, looks great. Gameplay is also impressing me so far, seems like there is some good oppurtunity for some nice combo's and juggles and the new Tag Team mode seems like a great idea. Whats better than fighting with one MK character? Fighting with 2

Like the look of some of the new fatalaties as well.

Game definetly went above my expectations.

[blockquote]Mortal Kombat will see the seires' return to a mature presentation and a reinvention of its classic 2D fighting style with 3D graphics, akin to Street Fighter 4. The game now includes a tag team feature. There are 1 on 1 matches and other new game modes. Up to 4 players can battle “tag-team”- 2 players can team up in the new “Co-op Arcade Mode” or compete against another team online.

“We are bringing the Mortal Kombat franchise back to gamers with the talented NetherRealm Studios team creating the game fans long to play,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Re-establishing the brand with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Mortal Kombat innovates on past games while staying true to the brand’s legendary characters and fighting style.” “We can’t wait for players to get their hands on Mortal Kombat,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!”[/blockquote]

There also seems to be some rumors going around that Kratos will be the console exclusive character for the PS3, whether this is true or not is another thing. only time will tell.

O_0 ooo. Kratos as a playable character, that would be awesome. Wonder who the Xbox360 exclusive will be? Master Chief?

Took a while to get to grips with the game, my fingers still move with MvC3 combination's so had to slow it down a bit

From the start the game looks polished even for a demo, the main menu is has some great artwork and shine to it. There looked like the game had a great selection of modes as well.

I was surprised when I first heard there would be 4 playable characters so was looking forward to trying them out.

Went first in with Scorpion and his moves are great, he had some easy link combo's and you can get very technical with his teleport.

The new inclusion of the super bar is awesome, adds a lot of depth to the gameplay, love that you can use it to perform X-ray moves or to enhance your special moves that that they look cooler and do more damage. Great system to implement.

The X-ray moves do some major damage but are very slow, figured out a few ways to combo into them which is awesome, nice to have that option so you don't just push the buttons and hope that the attack hits. Adding it to a combo increases the damage as well.

Didn't really enjoy Sub-Zero in the game though but will give him more game time. Johnny Cage is a lot better than I expected as well as Mileena, her Fatality is awesome

The special moves have remained intact and easy to do, none of this qfc, 720 crap lol and it's great that they included the Fatalities in the move list as well as combo's and special moves. Great move list.

The graphics are great and every stage feels alive, every punch and kick can be felt, the game just feels so meaty. Easily one of the best sounding games out there and half of it wasn't even there because it's a demo.

Looking forward to the full release and online play, can see lots of people going to love this one.

So the demo is out you say. You on PS3 right? I wonder if the 360 version is out too? Will check tonight. I'm excited now.
