Portal is Free
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:43:20 PM »
I was sifting around the local blogging scene and came across a new one called You are not allowed to view links.Register or Login
BlueGeek
- the oke seems to know his stuff, but that's besides the point.

On there BG mentioned that Portal is now free on Mac for a little while. I hopped on over to the Steam site and see that it's free for both PC and Mac.

So for anyone that's never played Portal...go grab it and download it before the 24th of May, while it's still free!

Yeah herd about this another website too. How does steam work. If I buy something from it can I install that game on multiple PC's? or does it only for the PC it was downloaded on to?

From what I gather you can download it onto multiple PCs that have your Steam Account loaded. But I think you can only run a single instance at a time.

I've had a Steam account for a little while and I must say it's pretty much WIN. ;) Keeps all of my games up to date, they have great offers and Steam itself beats all other DRM out there.

So far I've spent $21.97 with them and it has been great :D

Sure, I get all that, but that's if you're playing their games - not a HL(2) fan myself. ::)

With Steam they don't just sell Valve games. In fact they have a wide range of studios like
1C Company
2K Games
Activision
Atari
Bethesda
Big Fish Games
Capcom
Codemasters
Electronic Arts
Epic Games
Focus
Her Interactive
id Software
Interplay
iWin
JoWooD / DreamCatcher
Kalypso
LucasArts
Majesco
Meridian4
MumboJumbo
NCsoft
NovaLogic
Paradox Interactive
PlayFirst
PopCap
RailSimulator.com
Rockstar Games
Sandlot Games
SEGA
Sony Online
SouthPeak Games
SQUARE ENIX, Eidos Interactive
Strategy First
Telltale Games
THQ
Tilted Mill
Topware
Ubisoft
Valve
Warner Bros.

It's not all Gordan Freeman  ;D

Thanks for the info guys. Steam pretty much has all the top games... including my beloved Football Manager.

How are their download speeds? download manager friendly?

They seem to use P2P technology, but modified (not like torrents). On a 4Mbps line I usually get 260KB/s or so for downloads - and that's on MWEB partially shaped.

Whoa... This is the 1st time I'm reading about this. >_< :P Thanks for the info dude.

No probs - I actually thought you knew this already?

CS I only ever played with my friends or some co-workers. Anyone outside of that was always rude or obnoxious.

NeoN this seems to be a trend with you and FPS games in general - am I right? I think you got a headache from FEAR and Prey as well.
