Im currently using win Vista and I have not been happy for a very long time. I wanted to upgrade to win7 a while ago but couldnt the upgrade for some reason - had to do a clean install, which i didnt want to do.
So still battling away with vista, its reached the point now where I cant use explorer (I use total comander instead) I really need to upgrade!

Getting new desktop either May or June so will try to get it pre-installed with win7 (is your business running yet Graham?). Hoping to then run Ubuntu on my old desktop then.

Whats the latest version of Ubuntu out? Is it very different from previous ones? I dont think I've used it since version 6?

You need to either downgrade to Win XP or get 7 ASAP. 7, by far, is one of the, if not the, best OS Microsoft has released in a long time (I still like 95 and 3.1 ;) ). Some of your older games (using 16bit architecture) might not play, but everything else is smooth. It's also worthwhile getting 64bit as it's backwards compatible with 32 and has lots of support now.

Not yet man. You can check out the progress at You are not allowed to view links.Register or Login

, but I'm still developing it and sorting out the CC and VAT. (damn SARS ;) )

The latest is 9.10, which is very good. I use it for general work, some media and internet. Very stable system as well.

Still packing Win XP at home, but not for much longer. Am sorta forced to format since I've had a virus for months now and just been ignoring it (it's the one that doesn't let you view hidden folders, and AVG is not picking it up). ::)

With everyone telling me just how much more imba Win7 is, it seems to be a no-brainer - I have been putting it off for as long as I could, just incase it had glitches, but word-of-mouth says Win7 looks to be pretty stable. 8)

Will keep you guyz posted when I do finally upgrade - hoping to do it by this weekend.

Why do u still use AVG NeoN? Its not a good anti virus as it use to be in the past. Theres far more better Anti virus out there than AVG. Rather go with Bit Defender in my option.

...I don't mean to hi-jack the topic....

Hmmm... Always figured AVG to be imba, guess it's failing. :/ Will look into it 5NAKE, ty for the input.

Yea, AVG is no longer good - neither is ESET NOD. Try 5NAKE's idea. I personally use Kaspersky Internet Security combined with Microsoft Security Essentials and haven't had a single problem!

Cool.

Busy getting win7 versions of appz I'm gonna use (Adobe, Alcohol, Tera-Copy, etc). Seems that most of my prev installs are already win7 compatible, so that's awesome. 8)

Tonight I upgraded to uBuntu 10.04, which was released 2 days ago. The system seems a lot more refined than 9.10, but is suffering an identity crisis. Why? Well the new theme looks a lot like Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) - minus the funky bottom bar.

What's the best part about it? The generic audio drivers have been revamped so my notebook finally has audio again! Hooray!

Coming to you live from a win7 OS... pewpew~ :P >_< Decided to go with win7 Home Premium after talking to a few peeps.

Took all day, but am finally done with all 'em installs - which wasn't that much actually, since a few of my regular appz aren't compatible with win7 (notably TuneUp and NetLimiter). :/

Yet to run any benchmarks or install any games, so will keep you posted when I take her for stretch. ;)

Oh before I forget, where do I go to activate the Aero alt-tab visuals? ::) Haven't seen any options for it. :/

I just upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. So far it is looking good, but it's only been a day or so.

Found out how to use that imba Aero alt-tab feature, Windows-key + Tab. ;)

Ran both 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage, looked cool I guess. >_< Was awesome to finally be able to run Vantage. :P

Been watching anime after the install. so haven't had a chance to jam any games. ::)

hahaha... You know it. ;)

Just started reading Windows 7 Bible (PDF I got from the work-buddy who strongly recommended that I upgrade), which covers the changes in win7 as well as ways to secure my PC.

Does anybody know of any other software emulator thing that will allow me to run windows apps on a linux OS? I have Wine, but having trouble getting one of my games to work?

Oh also another thing. How many partitions would you recommend for a dual booted system? (Ubuntu/Win7)
