LOL! I wish man, but the GTX295 has been end of life for a while now and I had a limited budget. Next time I upgrade I'll look at the GTX300 cards, but that's still a loooooong time for me.

Ai I remember those. There was a massive F up with the first few worldwide batches as nVidia was making them, and not the individual brands. I got like 50% of the stock back from clients cos they were bust. Thankfully it was soon corrected.

This seems like the right place to ask this. As I've said before my current rig is in a shambles and im looking to upgrade.

So its decision time... for relatively the same price (about R500 difference) I can get either a Intel Core i5-650 3.2ghz or an Intel Quad Core Q8200 2.33.

Looking for a computer with forwards compatibility here as I wouldnt want to upgrade for awhile.
I dont game much on the PC... will probably only play StarCraft 2 when it comes out. But when the mood takes me, I do dabble in some processor intensive (database heavy) software development. Multi-tasking is essential.

So given my criteria, which of the two options would you guys go for?

GL.Za I'd go for the Intel i5 series. The CPUs are more advanced, and energy saving, than the LGA775 sockets (Core 2 xxx). Not to mention that i5 supports DDR3, while that Core 2 Quad (or at least the motherboards for it) support DDR2 - DDR2 pricing keeps rising, while DDR3 is decreasing.

Makes senses since they trying to move to better specs and you pay either less or same price as the older version.
